Rodby is a town on the island of Lolland in Storstrom County in south Denmark. Direct access to the Baltic Sea was the key factor behind the rise of one of Denmark’s southernmost townships. Because the sea was the principal means of transport, the Baltic became a center for trade and a settlement on the Southeastern edge of Lolland was a natural development. It also made sense to establish a town near the 13th century Aalholm Castle. The fortifications of this cstle provided much needed protection when the Vends from across the Baltic Sea went on a rampage and invaded. The proximity to lovely woodlands is part of what makes Rodby such an attractive place to visit. From here, there is just a short distance to untamed nature with forests extending down to the Baltic Sea
Puttgarden is a small village located on the northeast coast of the German island of Fehmarn, bordering the Fehmarn Belt. The port is primarily used as a gateway to Denmark, with 45 minute crossings to Rodby on the Danish south coast.
