Alicante Guide

Alicante is a city and port on the Costa Blanca, Spain. The city is the capital of the province of the same name and is located in the southern part of the Valencian community. Alicante is one of the main tourist destinations on the south eastern Spanish coast with the beautiful harbour city lying on the tranquil waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

This holiday hotspot contains stretches of sandy beaches and is the ideal place for sunbathing and sporting activities alike. The Spanish south east coast is a golfer’s paradise and Alicante is no exception, with a number of fantastic courses to choose from.

Barrio de la Santa Cruz, Alicante’s old town, is where you’ll find narrow streets, colourful housing and a bustling nightlife. At the foot of the 13th Century Castillo de Santa Barbara, which overlooks the city, you’ll find the historic quarter of the city where you can explore the beautiful architecture whilst treading the cobbled stoned streets. The Medieval castle itself is the perfect place to view the Mediterranean Sea with its lofty position at the top of Mount Benacantil.

The ferry terminal is found in the west section of the marina with straightforward access to the port for its passengers. The road networks make Alicante easily accessible with the A-31 linking the city with Madrid and the A-7 Highway connecting to other cities along the Mediterranean coastline. Elche/Alicante International Airport is less than a twenty minute drive from the terminal and the railway station is within walking distance.

From Alicante you can travel to three different Algerian ports. There are sailings every week to the Algerian capital Algiers, the north western port city of Mostaganem and the North African country’s second largest city, Oran.

Oran Guide

Oran is a city that lies on the north western Mediterranean Sea coast of Algeria and is Algeria's second largest city and is closely associated with the neighbouring city of Ain Temouchent. Oran is located around 430 km from Algiers, Algeria's capital city, and is a major port and commercial, industrial and centre for education in the region. The city can trace its history back to 903 when it was founded Moorish Andalusian traders and was later captured in 1509 by the Spanish under the rule of Cardinal Cisneros. Apart from a brief spell under the control of the Ottomans, the city remained under Spanish rule until King Charles IV finally sold the city to the Turks in 1792. Finally, the French have ruled the city since 1831.

Popular attractions in the city include the Demaeght Museum which contains exhibits of prehistoric archaeological artefacts from Magrheb and other ethnological displays. Also in the city is Dar el-Bahia, the town hall, the city's theatre and the beautifully designed Cathedral de Sacre Coeur which was opened by the French in 1913 and is now a public library.
