Built upon a rugged promontory that extends into the Aegean Sea from the west coast of Turkey, the town of Cesme is a popular destination for tourists yearning to unwind in the famed thermal baths or revel in the buoyant atmosphere of the many restaurants and bars situated on the pristine seafront. Due to its location just an hour west of the larger city of Izmir across the D300 highway, Cesme is a fashionable spot for wealthy city-folk. As such, many of the twisting streets are lined with grandly designed holiday homes, the most desirable of which command views over the glittering cobalt waters of the Mediterranean. The town’s main attraction and focal-point is Cesme Castle found mere minutes from the port. This waterside fortress was built in the early 1500s to protect the settlement from pirates who prowled the coast and is now a museum dedicated to its military past. The port itself consists of a fairly large passenger terminal and a pier extending from the ocean-side entrance of the town’s centrally-located marina. It’s a narrow opening that is far more suited to small yachts and windsurfers than larger cruise ships. There is however plenty of parking for visitors, a nearby supermarket and numerous walking routes that lead into the centre of town. Currently only a single ferry route operates from the port. An Ertürk Lines service leaves the port a number of times each week, making the exceptionally short trip to the Greek island of Chios across the Aegean Sea.
The Greek island of Chios can be found in the North Aegean Sea off the coast of Turkey. As the island is a popular tourist destination, Chios ferry port is served by numerous ferry connections with other ports in neighbouring islands as well as on mainland Greece and Turkey. The ferry port in Chios is located on the east side of the island.
