Varberg Guide

The Swedish town of Varberg is located in Halland County and along with the rest of Halland it is known for its 'typical west coast' sandy beaches which gradually change into more rocky terrain as you more north into the Bohuslan Arcipelago and as far north as the North Cape. However, after a mere 20 minute drive inland reveals a completely different terrain where you will be greeted by rolling hills, lakes and forests. The town is popular with tourists, especially during the summer months when many Swedes holiday there. One of the town's most popular attractions is its fortress, partly because of its size and secondly because it has no architectural uniformity. The fortress was first constructed in the late 13th century and has had new sections added to it over the years. Near Varberg there is the VLF transmitter Grimeton, an interesting radio-technical facility and classified by UNESCO to be a World Cultural Heritage site and can be visited during the summer.

From the town's port there are 14 ferry services each week to Grenaa with a crossing time of around 4 hours and 15 minutes.

Grenaa Guide

Grenaa is a town in Demark that is located on the east coast of the Jutland Peninsular and is the region's largest town. A popular site in the town is its church which is situated in the town square. It has one of the finest organs and a carillon with 42 bronze bells in Denmark and is well worth a visit. Also popular in the town is the Kattegatcentret, which is an aquarium located by the sea and has large sharks and focuses on Nordic salt water fish, and also in the town is the Museum Osjylland-Grenaa. Another popular destination in the town is the 5 km sandy beach along with the many pretty cottages that are available to rent.

Grenaa is connected by ferry to Varberg in Sweden and to the island of Anholt. The ferry terminal is located close to the centre of Grenaa and opens one hour before ferries departure. You can buy tickets at level 2 and that is also where you board the ferry if you travel without car.
