Found on the southwest coast of Turkey, Marmaris is a port town residing next to the Mediterranean Sea. The only ferry route departing from Marmaris is to Rhodes, an island near the mainland of Greece, and typically lasts around two hours. Marmaris is undoubtedly a party town; the streets in the town centre are littered with drunken tourists, populating the myriad of bars that form the main strip. In the summer months, over quarter of a million tourists head over to the popular coastal town, taking advantage of the jubilant atmosphere, warm temperatures and cheap alcohol. Unlike other towns notorious for attracting young tourists in search of buzzing nightlife, Marmaris has something to offer families and couples as well. There’s a water park which is a popular day out for everyone, and for those who have an active interest in archaeology there are many artefacts around the region waiting to be discovered. Aside from Bar Street, the harbour is one of the busiest parts of the town; it’s incredibly pretty, especially in the evening, and is decorated by the grand castle and filled with yachts lined along the docks. Marmaris Port is well connected to the rest of the town; there are shuttle buses that run to the town centre and last around 15 minutes. There is also a taxi rank located directly outside the ferry terminal for quick and easy transport. At the passenger terminal itself, there are useful facilities such as a public toilet, public telephone and a tourist information desk for the benefit of new visitors.
