  • "great service"

Booked ferry At. Last minute. Great site easy to use, quick reply with paperwork. Staff at both ports helpful, with easy speedy loading. Ferry a bit tight, so be prepared to turn car round on ferry or reverse off as it is not drive in back and off at the front. We turned up early for the return journey, and staff reluctant to let us board, even though ferry only half full. But did in the end. Food and drinks on-board not a rip off like channel ferry. Would recommend this shipping line to anyone. Journey time 40 to 45 minutes.

  • "You know…"

Good company, good service and slightly cheaper than Portoferraio. However less frequent. Because the confirmation was in Dutch, we thought that being in possession of a copy meant we were in possession of the boarding pass. Not the case! During the last half hour, when it was our turn to ride on the ship, we had to rush to the office, where we handed in our Dutch confirmation in exchange for the tickets. We missed this information when booking. And also at the barrier/entrance to the port area, no one told us anything. INFO should be clearer!

Piombino Guide

The Italian town of Piombino is located in the Province of Livorno in Tuscany. It lies on the border between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ligurian Sea, in front of the island of Elba and on the northern side of Maremma. The town can trace its origins back to when it was an Etruscan Port which then became an important port in the Middle Ages of the Republic of Pisa. A great time to visit is in August when "Agosto con Gusto" is in full swing. It is a significant food and wine fair that celebrates the gastronomy and culinary traditions of Piombino. Other visitor attractions in the town include the Museum of the Citadel and the City where the town's prehistoric, Etruscan and Roman past can be further explored. For the more energetic visitor, there are a number of trekking and bicycle paths along the coastline which lead through Mediterranean scrub towards the modern port of Salivoli.

From the port of Piombino ferries depart direct to the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago (Elba Island is just 10km from the coast), as well as to Sardinia and Corsica.

Rio Marina Guide

Rio Marina is located in the eastern part of the Italian island of Elba, inside a small inlet that is surrounded by hills which are characterised by a red earth which is due to iron oxide mining that took place in the past. The extraction of iron oxide took place in the region dating back to Etruscan times and together with fishing was the main activity of the village's residents until recently. Today, the village is a tourist resort that has many of the amenities and facilities tourists would expect. A popular attraction in the village is the Church of San Rocco which is an embattled tower in the port that has an octagonal base and was commissioned in 1534 by Giacomo V Appiano as a defensive lookout. The island's Mineral Park is another popular attraction and is where a variety of minerals that can be found on different parts of the island can be seen. There are around 1,000 different minerals to see and it is also possible to visit a mine.

From the port there are connections with the mainland, as an alternative to Portoferraio.
